Our Story

Why we started MATZZ

We're not a tuition agency. We're five students and graduates who sat these exams recently enough to remember exactly where they get hard.

Between us we went through GCSEs, A-Levels and the 11+ not that long ago. We all had the same experience of being taught by people who knew the subject inside out but had long forgotten what it feels like to not understand it yet. The explanations that finally made things click for us were rarely the ones in the textbook.

So we built the thing we wish we'd had. Every one of us tutors only the subject we study or studied at university, which means you're never handed to whoever happens to be free. Your first lesson is free and starts with a short diagnostic, because we'd rather find the actual gap than guess at it. And we're deliberately keeping our numbers small while we're starting out, so every student gets proper attention.

Pricing

One hourly rate per level

Your first lesson is free, so you only pay once you've seen how we teach. No packages to decode and no contracts.

Primary

Reception to Year 6, covering KS1 and KS2.

£20/ hour

11+ Entrance

Grammar and independent school entrance preparation.

£30/ hour

GCSE

Years 7 to 11, taught to your child's exam board.

£32/ hour

A-Level

Sixth form subject depth and exam technique.

£38/ hour

Yes. It's a full hour, at no cost and with no card details taken. It includes a short 15–20 minute diagnostic so we can see exactly where the gaps are. Afterwards we'll share what we found and talk through a plan, and you decide whether to carry on.
Enhanced DBS checks are currently in progress for all five of our founding tutors, alongside identity verification. Each of us only tutors the subject we studied at university, so you're always matched with someone who knows the material first-hand.
Lessons run through our simple online classroom with video, an interactive whiteboard and file sharing. It works on any laptop, tablet or phone, with no software to install.
Yes. Tutors plan lessons around the National Curriculum and the specific exam board your child studies (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and others), using real past papers where relevant.
Most families are matched with a tutor and booked into a first lesson within 2–3 working days of their free consultation.
